Through coordinated distribution efforts with partner establishments and local communities, DOLE Quezon made quality rice available at affordable prices, transforming a daily staple into a tangible expression of public service, care, and solidarity.

In December 2025, the Department of Labor and Employment – Quezon Provincial Office (DOLE-QPO) reaffirmed its commitment to people-centered governance by implementing the Benteng Bigas Meron Na! Program for members and workers of the Lucena Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Inc., bringing immediate relief to 560 beneficiaries across Lucena City and nearby communities.

The initiative took place throughout the month in Lucena City and select municipalities in Quezon Province, undertaken to ease the burden of rising food costs, strengthen household resilience, and ensure that workers and their families could meet a basic need with dignity. Through coordinated distribution with partner establishments and communities, DOLE Quezon made quality rice accessible at an affordable price—turning a daily staple into a symbol of care and solidarity.

At the heart of the program were people—drivers, office staff, service workers—whose everyday efforts keep local economies moving. For many, December is a season of heightened expenses. The program met this reality with practical compassion. Workers from BALGCO Transport, Inc. in Barangay Tagbakin, Atimonan—94 in all—received quality rice that eased weekly budgets. In Barangay Gulang-Gulang, Lucena City, 150 beneficiaries from JobsFinder went home with lighter grocery lists and steadier peace of mind. In Barangay 9, Lucena City, 45 workers from Pazalonia Pawnshop experienced the same quiet relief: fewer worries at the table, more assurance at home.

Beyond the numbers, the impact was deeply personal. (This program helped us breathe easier. It may be rice, but it means fewer expenses and more certainty for our family. Thank you for remembering workers like us.) The sentiment echoed across distribution points—gratitude mixed with renewed confidence that public service can respond where it matters most.

Ms. Cristina H. Barayang, Officer-in-Charge of DOLE Quezon Provincial Office, emphasized the long-term value of the initiative. “Benteng Bigas Meron Na! provides immediate relief while reinforcing food security for working families,” she said. “By making essentials more affordable, we help households stabilize and communities move forward with greater resilience.”

As the program continues to reach different companies and communities across the province, DOLE Quezon invites interested establishments to participate. Organizations may coordinate with DOLE Quezon Provincial Office through 09171085721 or visit the office at 2F Grand Central Terminal, Lucena City.

As December closed, many families sat down to meals made lighter by reduced costs and renewed assurance. In each sack of rice, DOLE Quezon delivered more than sustenance—it delivered dignity, reminding communities from the first distribution to the last that when governance is compassionate, hope finds its way home.
